Revelation First Print

Question: When was the text of Revelation included by Erasmus in the New Testament?

Google: Desiderius Erasmus (1466–1536) used Greek manuscripts to translate the Latin Vulgate of the New Testament, including the Book of Revelation:

·         Greek manuscripts  Erasmus used several Greek manuscripts, including a 12th century manuscript of Revelation.

·         Textus Receptus  Erasmus's text of the Book of Revelation primarily follows the Andreas text-type, which was used by Andreas of Caesarea in his commentary on Revelation.

·         Last six verses  Erasmus was unable to edit the last six verses of Revelation directly from the Greek, so he translated them back from the Latin Vulgate.

·         Novum Instrumentum  Erasmus called his Greek and Latin New Testament Novum Instrumentum, believing it would revive Christian spirituality.

·

Erasmus lived during a time of European religious reformations and developed a Biblical humanistic theology.  He advocated for peaceable concord and pastoral tolerance.
